About the Author
Phyllis L. Bass
Phyllis Bass is a native North Carolinian. She received her formal education in Durham County. She received her undergraduate degree at Winston-Salem State University and her graduate degree at Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge Campus). She was a teacher in Charlotte (NC), Roxboro (NC), Leesville LA, Wahiawa (HI) and Fayetteville (NC) before her early retirement. She has been a volunteer with several organizations: Army Community Service (budget counselor), Carolina Donor Services (organ and tissue procurement agency), Court Mediator (dispute resolution) and a Guardian Ad Litem volunteer (court advocate for children who were victims of abuse and/or neglect).
She is married and has a daughter and granddaughter. She is a health news enthusiast. She was the editor of her church’s health newsletter, Health Matters, for four years. Currently, she maintains a health bulletin board at her church. She was also the co-editor of Organators, an organ & tissue transplant newsletter, for a period of time. In addition she has written several articles about lupus in her local newspaper.
She enjoys pillow and quilt making, vegetable and flower gardening. Her latest interests are jewelry making and recycling cardboard boxes by covering them with beautiful fabric and/or wall paper. The transformed boxes (storage containers) are very appealing accents to the never-ending storage solutions. She also recycles worn and/or damaged binders and journals by adding a new cover using the same medium as with the recycled cardboard boxes. She is very interested in establishing a non-profit organization for organ transplant recipients who are without medical coverage; this would provide needed financial assistance for the costly immunosuppressive medicines transplant recipients are required to take. She is currently working on another book about lupus.
