Organ & Tissue Info

Organ transplant programs could not exist without the heroic act of organ donors and their families. A donor family's endowment to others is given at the time when their heart pains the most. Donors restore quality of life, and at times donors give life at death's door. There is no greater gift you can give than to save another person's life.

Phyllis L. Bass, the author of "Butterflies on My Mind," has been blessed with two kidney transplants; both of her kidneys were after death donations, commonly called cadaver donors. She received her first transplant in December 1988. Her body rejected the donor organ and she received her second lifesaving transplant, her second miracle, in May 1996.

There are 85,458 candidates on the kidney transplant waiting list (as of 7/24/09). The total number of candidates on the waiting list for all organs has climbed to an all-time high of 102,806 (as of 7/30/09) as reported by UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing). There is a severe shortage of donor organs. For current waiting list statisitcs visit UNOS.org.

A portion of this book sale proceeds will be donated to non-profit organ tissue transplant education and support programs.
